What an OTDR measures
An OTDR or optical time-domain reflectometer injects light pulses and analyzes backscatter along the link. The trace reveals events, estimates distance and helps analyze losses associated with connectors, splices, bends, breaks and other discontinuities.
Fiber testing for troubleshooting
When there is a service outage or degradation, fiber optic testing can help narrow down the location of the problem. Proper setup —wavelength, range, pulse width and acquisition time— directly affects the quality of the measurement.
OTDR with launch cable
To properly characterize events near the beginning or end of a link, a launch cable and, depending on the procedure, a receive cable can be used. This helps observe connectors that might otherwise fall within the instrument’s dead zones.
Optical power testing
Not every question is answered with OTDR. A light source and power meter test can evaluate end-to-end loss. The method is selected according to whether the goal is troubleshooting, acceptance, maintenance or documentation.
Test report
When required by scope, we deliver traces, values and technical observations. This documentation provides a baseline for future comparisons and supports repair decisions.
